How to Stay Healthy While Traveling

Traveling is a great way to spend time with family, visit loved ones, or de-stress from your busy life! You can go on new adventures, try new things and explore new places.

So how do you stay healthy when not at home?

Below are some easy tips for staying healthy while traveling:

1. Pack Healthy Foods

-Prepare a healthy trail mix, which may include almonds, cashews, gogi berries, cacao nibs and walnuts. Or whatever mix works for you!

-Cut up veggies, such as, carrots or celery and bring along your favorite dip such as hummus or a bean dip!

-Before you head out the door, prepare your favorite smoothie and put it in a to go mug.

-The night before you leave make a salad and put it in a mason jar. Use a hearty lettuce like kale, which can be dressed with your homemade salad dressing ahead of time.

-Pack a jar of almond butter and pre-sliced apples.

-Pick up travel sized protein powders and gluten free oatmeal packs and simply add water.

2. Plan Ahead

-Look up local, healthy restaurants or juice bars in advance or call the concierge at your hotel for recommendations. Pull up the menus and look for high quality foods that are grass-fed, local, and organic. You can always call and ask questions ahead of time. Don’t forget to ask your server about the ingredients. Is there dairy in this? Or gluten in the dressing? It’s hard to know what hidden ingredients could be in your meal without asking.

3. Find Local Health Food Stores

-Before you travel, research the closest health food stores, such as, Whole Foods.

4. Make Sure To Hydrate

-Fill your water bottles with filtered water and pack extra. It is really important to stay hydrated while traveling.

5. Stick To Your Normal Eating Routine as Much as Possible.

-Simply do your best to continue eating as if you were at home, but don’t be too hard on yourself. Try something new and have fun!

 6. Try to Fit in Exercise.

-Whether it is a walk on the beach, yoga on the grass, or a bike ride to check out local sights... try to make exercise part of your travel experience.
