Getting a good night’s sleep is essential to your health. Exercise, meditation, drinking plenty of filtered water and eating whole foods are simply not enough to maintain a healthy mind and body. Sleep is a necessary time for your body to repair and restore itself.

Here are a few things to consider when it comes to feeling well rested:
Create a sleep-friendly environment. Paint your walls a calming color, clear out the clutter to help you relax and still your mind, use an aromatherapy diffuser, and invest in a sound machine.
Create a bedtime routine. Going to bed and waking up at a similar time each day can help the body get into a healthy rhythm.
Experiment with restorative evening activities. Things like meditation, gentle yoga, and aromatherapy all play an important role in preparing for a good night’s sleep.
Reduce “busy brain” at night. You many find it helpful to keep a journal and pen near your bed. If you think of something, jot it down, knowing that it won’t be forgotten and can be considered in the morning.
Remove all electronics from your room. Those devices emit artificial “blue light” that can affect your body’s production of melatonin and, in turn, your quality and quantity of sleep.
Reduce exposure to light and sound. You may consider thick curtains to keep the light out of your room or a less-expensive option like an eye mask. Try a sound machine or app (for white noise) or simply try earplugs to minimize distracting sounds.
